Apex Committee nearing completion of evaluation of all Estimates and
allocation of contracts |
| |
The Apex Committee has been hard at work in the last two weeks finalizing the first stage of the Schools Re-awaken project.
A special sub-Committee headed by Amal Tudawe and comprising Architects, Building and Structural Engineers and others, have been carefully evaluating all the estimates received from the Lead Clubs for their respective schools.
The Apex Committee has now received two estimates each for every school. The first estimate
is the Government estimate and the second an independent estimate obtained by the Lead Rotary Club.
The sub-committee is meeting with the Project Co-ordinators of the Lead Clubs, together with
their selected Architects and Contractors to evaluate each estimate and award the formal building contracts for each school.
Rotary Sri Lanka will be rebuilding 25 Schools around the country in their “Schools Re-awaken” Project.
Allocation of Sponsors
The Apex Committee is also now finalizing the list of Sponsors – both local and overseas – for all
the schools.
The spontaneous response from prospective sponsors has been overwhelming and the Apex Committee is keen to ensure that every Sponsor – large or small – is given a role in the project.
Some Sponsors have indicated they would like to sponsor an entire school by themselves, whilst
others whose budgets are smaller, are being matched together and allocated to schools.
Yet another category of sponsors have indicated their desire to sponsor particular areas of a school according to their budgets i.e. the building of a block of classrooms, a gymnasium, the school library etc.
The Apex Committee would also like to remind Sponsors to remit their funds to the special bank account set up for this purpose (How YOU can help) as soon as possible. We need to now translate the pledges into funds – and quickly.
Most of the estimates received are higher than originally anticipated owing to the enhanced facilities that we wish to provide at every single school making each school a model school. |
