Overseas sponsors join Rotarians for groundbreaking ceremony of new school Dharmarama Vidyalaya
Executives from the American Jewish Joint Development Corporation joined Rotarians in a groundbreaking ceremony for the rebuilding of the new Dharmarama School.
The American Jewish Joint Development Corporation is sponsoring the entire cost of the rebuilding of the school and some of their Executives flew down especially to Sri Lanka to see
for themselves the efforts made by Rotary Sri Lanka.
Dharmarama Vidyalaya is situated in Ahangama in the Southern District of Galle It is a Primary School with classes from Grades 1-5 and has a total of 781 students. The School was totally destroyed by the tsunami and had to be relocated. The Rotary Club of Colombo Mid-City is the Lead Club assigned to oversee the project.
District Governor Lucky Pieris and members of the Apex Committee too participated in the historic event. The entire rebuilding is expected to be completed by March 2006.
Earlier this month, construction work began on Randombe Junior School in Ambalangoda and Al Aqsa Vidyalaya in Pottuvil.
Five other Schools were also given the green light by the Apex Committee after evaluation of their estimates and are expected to commence work in the next two weeks.
Lead Club Colombo Uptown is expected to begin work on Uthayapuram Vidyalaya in the Batticaloa district by the end of June.
Two more schools in the Batticaloa District - Kayankerni Saraswathy Vidyalaya and Thettativu Sivakalai Vidyalaya, have also received clearance from the Apex Committee. These two schools are handled by the Rotary Clubs of Matale and Batticaloa respectively and work is likely to commence shortly.
The Rotary Club of Kollonawa will also begin construction of the school allocated to them – Uswathun Hasana Maha Vidyalaya which is in Galle.
The Rotary Club of Trincomalee will begin work on the school allocated to them – Thamaraivil Al-Rawla Vidyalaya in Trincomalee by the end of June.
