Rotary School Aid shifts into top gear

The district of Sri Lanka on Wednesday, gave District Governor Lucky and his Task Force a unanimous vote of support and pledged to ensure that Rotary Sri Lanka will be able to deliver on its pledge to rebuild 22 schools by the 1st of December.

After weeks of meticulous planning, the district today unveiled the full details of its project to rebuild the schools affected by the Tsunami disaster to a packed audience consisting of all Presidents, President Elects and several Community Service Directors from the district of Sri Lanka.

Every single Rotary Club in the country was assigned a role in the challenging task of rebuilding the schools. Every School allocated to Rotary was assigned a Lead Club and two Associate Clubs who would be responsible for the supervision and logistical support of the work on the school.

An Apex Committee headed by Past District Governor K. Ravindran and comprising of all the stakeholders will have overall responsibility for the entire project. Standard Chartered Bank will be one of the main partners of the project as will UNICEF. A representative of the Education Ministry and PDG Tissa Bandaranayake and PDG N.R. Gajendran, both Senior partners of Audit firms will also be part of the Committee. Total transparency will be a key aspect of the project.

Work on the schools will commence immediately and Clubs have been set a two-week deadline for the submission of preliminary estimates.

All details of every school being rebuilt will be posted on the website and updated with regular progress reports and whenever possible some pictures.
