OUR PLEDGE – EVERY SCHOOL A MODEL SCHOOL

When Rotary first undertook to rebuild the schools affected by the tsunami the initial intention was to restore the schools to their original condition. However upon more reflection, it was decided that we needed to turn this disaster into an opportunity and with this intention we firmly resolved to rebuild bigger and better schools to replace the earlier ones.

We soon realized that the challenge ahead was a major one. Most of the schools lacked even the very basic of facilities which most of us tend to take for granted in our lives.

We then resolved that the minimum requirements of each school would be as follows:

Classrooms:

Each school would have well ventilated classrooms, with built-in cupboards, Blackboard, raised platform for Teacher, lockable doors and windows and Electric fans. Additionally all stairways would be covered.

Administration facilities:

The following basic administration facilities - Principals office, Assembly Hall, Staff Room, Canteen, Library and Medical Centre or First Aid Room. Additionally every school will be provided with a Public Address system.

Sanitation & Hygiene:

Adequate toilet facilities for students and staff.

Student facilities:

Fully equipped Science Laboratories, Junior Science rooms, Gymnasiums, Computer Rooms and multi-media facilities will also be provided.

Basic Utilities:

Every School will also be provided with a permanent source of water, and if necessary Solar Power in areas without electricity.

Staff Accommodation:

We will also build quarters for the Principal and staff where necessary.

Sports:

Every school will have a suitable playground and indoor facilities for sports.
