Rotary Centre Project

“A symbol of hope is what one generation creates for the next”

We need your help to build one.
The District Rotary Centre – The Building Project

History

The need for a Rotary District Centre was identified as way back as the late seventies. In the Rotary Year 1993-94 a District Rotary center Fund was launched with an initial contribution of Rs 16,800/- and Rs 5,000/- from the Interact District Committee.

The project gathered further momentum in the years 1995-96 and 1996-97 when over Rs 1 million was collected on a major fund raising project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid City. However, due to the inability to procure suitable land to build the Centre, the fund was maintained.

In the Rotary year 1999-2000, the District Governor together with the District Rotary Centre Committee successfully negotiated with the Automobile Association to lease a section of their building to set up the Centre.

In 2002-03 the ideal block of land worth Rs 9 million and located near the House of parliament, was leased from the Government for the building of a new Rotary Centre.

The building

The three storey building estimated to cost around Rs 40 million will house the District Administrative Offices, Meeting Rooms, Auditorium, Restaurant, Library, and residential accommodation for upto 40 people and Vocational training for youth.

Funding & Membership

So far, more than 40 Rotarians have become Life Members of the Centre by contributing Rs 100,000/- each. Life Membership contributions may be made even in instalments. The names of Life members will be engraved on a plaque to be installed in the foyer. Life Members will be entitled to several benefits such as priority bookings of Meeting Rooms and discounted rates on other facilities.

We need your help

You can help realize this project by contributing in either cash or kind. Any Contribution is welcome. This will be your Centre – your legacy – help build a symbol of hope for the Youth and the Rotarians in the next century.
