30th November 2008
Work progress is hampered by the heavy monsoon rain. New target completion date is now 31st January 2009.
31st October 2008
Site was formally handed over to the new contractor and he has now commenced work on completion of the school.
31st Aug 2008
Apex Comm has had meeting with overseas sponsors and agreed on a plan of action to ensure the urgent completion of the school by end of December 2008.
31st July 2008
All work is suspended and Apex Comm to meet with Sponsors and Contractor to resolve all pending issues.
30th June 2008:
Work progress is still very unsatisfactory and Apex Comm together with Lead Club has issued ultimatum to Contractor to speed up work as per agreed targets.
31st May 2008:
Work pace is extremely disppointing and sub contractor has only a small workforce deployed at site.
30th April 2008:
Progress of work is still slow as the site was closed for over a week for the local New Year holiday.
31st March 2008:
There was almost no work done in the first two weeks of the month owing to the holding of local council elections in the area. Work recommenced only in the last week of the month.
29th February 200:
Work is progressing through the sub contractor but the overall pace is still quite slow. 60% of all construction work has now been completed.
31st January 2008:
Contractor unable to mobilise adequate staff at site and has agreed to hand over site to a sub contractor who will work under his supervision.
31st December 2007:
Progress of work continues slowly and steadily although with a reduced workforce. Approximately 65% of the construction work is now complete.
30th November 2007:
The pace of work is slow but some progress is being made despite the difficult circumstances. Nearly 60% of the work is now complete.
31st October 2007:
Contractor and workforce remobilised at site and expected to commence work shortly. Overall 50% of construction work has been completed. Target end date is 31st March 2008.
15th June 2007:
No progress at all as death of contractor in unrelated incident has left workforce without proper management. Apex Committee monitoring situation closely.
15th May 2007:
Steel work transported to site but member of contractor's staff killed in unconnected incident at his residence. Work is presently at a standstill once again.
30 April 2007:
Site was out of bounds owing to location of Security post just next to it. Clearance has now been received to resume our work. Contractor will mobilise after the Vesak holidays. Await revised timeframe from Contractor/Lead Club.
07 April 2007:
Site will be closed from 8-23 April for the local New Year holidays. Next Progress report will be on 30th April 2007.
31 Mar 2007:
Contractor and Lead Club has discussions with the Apex Comm and have cleared several issues regarding security etc and agreed a new timeframe for completion of all outstanding work.
15th Feb 2007:
Still only handful of workers at site and there is hardly any progress at all. Apex Comm to interview Contractor & Lead Club if work pace does not pick up.
15th Jan 2007:
No progress at all in the last two weeks. Only two workers are on site.
31st Dec 2006:
Work pace is very slow and only skeleton staff is working on site. Roof work is 75% complete. No progress in other areas.

Contractor has not been able to mobilise staff at site as workers still reluctant to return over safety concerns. Project Staff monitoring situation.

Security situation has now improved and contractor is expected to mobilise full workforce at site by 24th October after local Deevali festival.

Construction site continues to be vacated owing to security concerns. Situation being monitored on a daily basis by project staff. Project staff visited site on 19th September and had meeting with Contractor and site staff. Hope to commence work in early October.

MoE has undertaken resolve dispute and to have original land allocated to the School. Await final confirmation from MoE.
30 June 2005:
Formal tender awarded but allocated land withdrawn and new site allocated. In talks with MoE to revert to original site allocated.
15 May 2005:
All drawings and estimates have been approved by the Apex Committee and letter of award issued. Construction expected to commence in last week of May
21 April 2005:
Preliminary designs and estimates have been forwarded to the Apex Committee for evaluation and award of contract.
7 Feb 2005:
This is one of the schools that was totally destroyed by the tsunami and has to be relocated owing to its close proximity to the sea. Negotiations are presently underway with relevant Government officials and the Ministry of Education to identify a suitable block of land on which to relocate the school. If any state land is available progress will be faster than if private land has to be acquired by the state, for this purpose. |
