Mawella Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya is a Primary and Secondary grade school with classes from Grades 1-10(O Level). It is a Type 3 school. The school has only 82 students, 40 male and 42 female. It has 16 teachers.School is being amalgamated with Moraketiyara School.which has 160 Students

PROGRESS REPORTS
30th June 2007:
Water Purification Unit has now been installed and all work on the project is complete.

15th June 2007:
Installation of Water Purification Unit in progress. All other work is now complete and contractor has demobilised at site.

15th May 2007:
New school was ceremonially opened on 9th May by RI Director Robert Stuart in colourful ceremony attended by senior Rotarians of the district and representatives of Standard Chartered Bank.

30 April 2007:
All construction work has now been completed, workforce now doing landscaping and putting final finishing touches to site. Ceremonial opening fixed for Wednesday 9th May 2007.

07 April 2007:
Site will be closed from 8-23 April for the local New Year holidays. Next Progress report will be on 30th April 2007.

31 Mar 2007:
Work is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by end April in time for ceremonial opening in first week May.

28th Feb 2007:
Work continues at a very satisfactory pace. Expect school to be complete by mid May 2007.

15th Feb 2007:
Work is progressing very well. Soft opening of new school block is scheduled for 17th February. Students will be moved to new block to facilitate completion of next block.

Foundation was laid on 26th Jan 2006 and construction work commenced immediately. Work on 2 storeyed classroom blk in progress.

Preparation of site almost complete. Foundation stone laying ceremony set for 26th January 2006.

31st Dec 2005:
Workforce is presently engaged in demolition work and clearing of site. Construction work expected to commence in first week of January 2006. Target completion date 31st May 2006.

30th Nov 2005:
All paperwork finally complete. Expect mobilisation of workforce and construction work to commence by mid December.

15th Nov 2005:
Award of tender delayed slightly owing to the presidential elections. Expect work to commence by end November.

31st Oct 2005:
All paperwork finally completed and MoE clearance received with few minor amendments. Expect award of tender and mobilisation to take place shortly.

30th Sep 2005:
Finalisation of tender delayed unexpectedly. Intend to finalise by mid October and lay foundation stone.

15th Sep 2005:
Progress has slipped. Award of tender has been delayed for another week. Expect finalise by end September.

31 August 2005:
Drawings from new architect just received. Expect award tender and commence construction work by 15th Septemnber.

15 August 2005:
Architect replaced owing to long delay. New Architect instructed to have all paperwork complete by end August.

31 July 2005:
Paperwork from architect/contractor has been further delayed.

15 July 2005:
Paperwork from architect/contractor has been delayed. Expect to award contract in end July.Construction to begin by 15 August.

30 June 2005:
School is being amalgamated with Moraketiyara School. Await final drawings/estimates from contractor. Expect to commence contruction by mid July.

31 March 2005:
Due to absence of land, Mawella Sri Sumangala is to be amalgamated with Moraketiyara School which has 160 students. New designs to be submitted for bigger school.

7 Feb 2005:
This is one of the schools that was totally destroyed by the tsunami and has to be relocated owing to its close proximity to the sea. Negotiations are presently underway with relevant Government officials and the Ministry of Education to identify a suitable block of land on which to relocate the school. If any state land is available progress will be faster than if private land has to be acquired by the state for this purpose.
