Sri Vinayagar Vidyalaya (Vidyalaya is the Sinhala term for School )is a Primary and Secondary grade school with classes from Grades 1-10(O Level). It is a Type 2 school. The school has 18 Teachers and 468 students, 208 male and 260 female.

31st August 2007:
New School declared opened on 25th August 2007 in colourful ceremony with overseas sponsors from Rotary Denmark and members of Apex Committee in attendance.

15th August 2007:
New School is now ready for ceremonial opening. Workforce engaged in landscaping and finishing touches before the event which is expected to have overseas sponsors in attendance.

15th July 2007:
"Work is progressing at a feverish pace to complete the construction by mid August 2007.Admin Blk--A – Overall- 70% complete, Admin Blk- -B- Overall- 85%, Single Storied Blk-; . 2-Storied Block – Overall-90%.

15th May 2007:
Work is progressing steadily. Wiring, -60%, Capentry-20% in all Buildings. Admin Blk--A – roof -20% G.Fl. plaster-100%, Admin Blk- -B- Plaster- G.Fl.-80%, roof -100%, Single Storied Blk- . 2-Storied Block –Overall-98%.

30 April 2007:
Workforce is now back at full strength following New Year holiday and work pace has picked up appreciably. Contractor does not have any Sinhala labour and so is largely unaffected by the warning about safety of Sinhala labour. Target completion date for school is end June 2007.

07 April 2007:
Site will be closed from 8-23 April for the local New Year holidays. Next Progress report will be on 30th April 2007.

31 Mar 2007:
Work pace has slowed down considerably and contractor has assured Apex Comm that full workforce will be deployed after New year holidays.

28th Feb 2007:
Work continues to progress at a steady pace. Contractor is optimistic of completing school by end June 2007.

15th Feb 2007:

31st Dec 2006:
The progress of work on the school has been quite reasonable. The Contractor has faced regular shortages of labour as the demand for both skilled and unskilled labour in the area is now quite high.Overall 60% of the work has now been completed. Both main buildings have now been completed upto Roof Level. Additionally, the internal plastering of the first building is also almost completed.

Work has now recommenced with increased workforce after resolution of earlier issue. Expect optimum workforce to be in operation by end of the month.

Pace of work has slowed down considerably as Contractor under pressure from external forces regarding the non-payment of 'taxes'.

15th May 2006:
Work has resumed after new year holidays and is at a fair pace. G Flr Columns & Brk wk-80% in Wing A of 2 storeyed blk. Column Foundations 70% in Wing B. Admin Blk - columns & Brk wk - 100%. Single storeyed bldg - columns & bk wk - 100%.

Construction work is now in progress in cleared area.

31st Jan 2006:
Temporary shelters have now been relocated and construction work has just started.

15th Jan 2006:
Workforce is now mobilised at site and clearing of site is in progress. However Contractor is unable to commence construction work because some of the temporary shelters set up by MoE are on the site and need to be relocated to ensure safety of students.

31st Dec 2005:
Contractor had a change of heart and resubmitted fresh quote at very competitive rate and was awarded tender.

15th Dec 2005:
Apex Committee have decided to call for fresh tenders after contractor refused to reduce his rates.

30th Nov 2005:
Foundation stone laid pending final negotiations with contractor whose prices still comparatively high. Apex Committee has requested him to revise his estimate downwards or lose tender.

15th Nov 2005:
Issue of LoA delayed slightly due to ongoing negotiations with contractor. Expect award to be issued and construction to commence by end November.

31st Oct 2005:
Paperwork is still not completed. Still await structural drawings and amendments to BOQ before finalising award.

Finalisation of tender delayed unexpectedly. Intend to finalise by mid October and lay foundation stone.
