Arunodaya Vidyalaya is a Primary grade school with classes from Grades 1-5. It is a Type 3 school. The school has only 84 students, 36 male and 48 female. It has eight teachers.

PROGRESS REPORTS
31st Jan 2006:
Apex Committee has decided to drop the school as site resolution has taken over a year and the sponsors have withdrawn their offer owing to the delay.

31st Dec 2005:
No progress at all in resolution of issues with MoE regarding final location of new building.

15th Dec 2005:
A third school -St Michael's School has been marked as the location for the for the building of the new school. This will entail the amalgamation of three schools Arunodaya, Kangaratnam and St Michaels.

30th Nov 2005:
A third school has been suggested for the building of the new school. The Apex Committee will discuss the issue shortly and take a decision on whether to proceed any further with this school.

15th Nov 2005:
Still require survey plan which MoE promised to give us after the Presidential election due on 17th Nov.

31st Oct 2005:
Awaiting survey plan from MoE to finalise paperwork and begin construction.

15th Oct 2005:
School is to be amalgamated with Kanagaratnam School and built on the latter's premises. Expect finalisation of award and mobilisation of workforce to commence shortly.

30th Sep 2005:
MoE has shifted its stance and now given permission to build at original site but with added precautions. Apex Committee and Lead Club jointly looking into feasibility and practicality of new design and additional costs.

15th Sep 2005:
MoE have decided to amalgamate school with Kanagaratnam School which is located further inland. Await formal paperwork from MoE.

31 August 2005:
Coast Conservation Dept not happy about locating school within the buffer zone. Now looking at amalgamating school with Kanagaratnam School which is located further inland.

15 August 2005:
The authorities have relaxed the 100 metre buffer zone in some areas and suitable land has been identified. Final decision on land expected after 18th Aug.

31 July 2005:
Land issue still not resolved by Ministry of Education who have requested for two more weeks.

15 July 2005:
Await final drawings/estimate from architect/contractor. Expect to award contract by end July.

30 June 2005:
Suitable land has recently been allocated. Survey plan required for design of building.

7 Feb 2005:
This is one of the schools that was totally destroyed by the tsunami and has to be relocated owing to its close proximity to the sea. Negotiations are presently underway with relevant Government officials and the Ministry of Education to identify a suitable block of land on which to relocate the school. If any state land is available progress will be faster than if private land has to be acquired by the state for this purpose.
